About the Artist
Originally from the UK Helen Dennis moved to New York City in 2002 to study her MFA at Hunter College. She has since gone on to create public art works commissioned by the Downtown Alliance of New York, The LAB Gallery for Installation Art, NoLongerEmpty and the DUMBO Arts Festival. Dennis has been awarded several international art residencies taking her to Beijing, Cyprus, Iceland, and most recently Caldera Arts in Oregon.
Dennis' artwork fuses photography with drawing while focusing on urban environments. Her images describe the understated architecture, and seemingly impossible geometric structures, that hold the tension and weight supporting the city's infrastructure. Using layered drawings on translucent paper combined with alternative photographic processes, Dennis creates these unique photographic drawings.
